Fancy a drive?
My sewing machine is sulking at the menders. For the second time (I never learnt from the last time) I have knocked the timing out on the machine by trying to ram too much material through it, breaking the needle and thereby jolting the timing mechanism out so all stitching is basically buggared up the spout. So, what with a weeks worth of sewing time lost, and nothing to show and tell, I thought you might like to join me on a drive through the beautiful devon countryside, seeing as the sun is shining and all is otherwise well with the world.
I'll start by driving you down the beautiful lanes so we can admire all the wild spring flowers bursting into life in the hedgerows.
Bus anyone?
Nope, I think we'll imagine we're in a little convertable sports car with the roof down, thank you all the same. With Audrey Hepburn 50's style head scarfs tied under our chins, large sunglasses and a picnic basket in the boot. Bugsy I'll be Audrey...
We must stop and have a gaze over the gate at this wonderful view...
and this one.
Did you bring your wellies? Good, lets have a walk down this lane and take the picnic basket...
I think we'll pick a different field for our picnic.. this one's a little occupied..
Oh how I love these old farm buildings...
Now, if we walk just round the corner we should come to the perfect spot...
Where we can crack open the flask and the sandwiches.
and meet the locals.
Then its back in the car for the drive home, past a few of my favourite houses..
when you might want to pull your headscarf a little tighter round your ears, as I am known for shouting 'ITS NOT FAIR!' as we drive past these gorgeous little abodes.
Then its back to mine, for a fresh pot of tea and to polish off the remainders of the lemon drizzle cake and the crushed bakewell tarts from the bottom of the picnic basket.
Let me know when you can come round again xx

Oh, but at least you can drive by these houses! I gasped out loud when I saw the thatched cottage ... I'm certain I should be living there. Or at least in the same country that it is. Best wishes from New York.

Thank you so much for taking us on that delightful drive. I will continue to dream of the day when I will hopefully get to see the English countryside, until then I will continue to enjoy all my favourite English blogs! Just beautiful!

IT'S NOT FAIR! I want to travel down the Devon streets, too. We do have beautiful spots here in America, too, but your area is so romantic or fairy tale or Jane Austen-y and the like. I'm glad you know it and enjoy it and then show the pictures for us. -- michele

Crikey we were only talking about Hennock yesterday! My mum once taught there..many many moons ago! She had to catch a train from Newton Abbot so far, then walk two miles to the school! She said evenings were worse as she had to do the journey in the reverse and the trains were few and far between! By the time she got home it was almost time to set out again..LOL! Have you been to the reservoirs? ;-)

That was a lovely drive and the potholes just made it even more fun. I always say it's a bit like a fairground ride going down the country lanes.
When I was wee we used to gather the bits of fur and wool from the barbed wired fences but I can't remember what we did with it after. I think it was for an imaginery spinning wheel.
Thank you for the little meander your posts often take me back.

What a wonderful, virtual journey! Devon is such a beautiful county, I spent alot of time there in my childhood with my grandparents but, sadly, haven't been back for many years. I must do something about that.

What a lovely idea - a virtual drive some very delightful country lanes. I love the locals and the idea of a picnic in the bluebells. I'd love to come again sometime.
