Phew.
Finally we have officially reached the summer holidays!
Six weeks of no time keeping, no early mornings, no early nights and lots and lots of relaxing!
We have plans. We are spending some time in Dorset and some time in Cornwall, and in between that we will be spending lots of time at the beach, and in the woods and the National Park!
But the kids are also very excited about attempting the National Trust's 50 Things To Do Before You're 11¾.
The ‘50 Things to do before you’re 11¾’ initiative is in response to a report commissioned by the National Trust which highlighted research that fewer than one in ten children regularly play in wild places compared to almost half a generation ago, a third have never climbed a tree, one in ten can’t ride a bike, and three times as many are taken to hospital after falling out of bed, as from falling out of a tree.
So, we started in earnest on Saturday - as the weather was glorious - and drove down the beach in the early evening.
Task No. 5 - Skim A Stone
and they the kids spent a blissful hour or so skimming stones.
You can pick up a little scrapbook for free at any of the National Trust shops or venues and they can fill it in as they go, and there's a website here for them to go to to log in the details of their completed tasks and earn virtual rewards as they go!
You can read more about the list here.
We are going to try and complete all 50 tasks during the six week summer holiday - and I will attempt to post about them as we go!
Happy Holidays everyone! xx

What a great idea, I'm going to have a look at the list for my two. Six weeks is great but we all need some free/cheap ideas of things to do. I don't want to hear the saying "I'm bored". Sarah

We are doing 50 things too; we've been using the website to track them but will look out for the scrapbook - great idea!
