Yesterday was a very sad day for us. We lost a very dear old friend. Trafford had been with us for 14 years, in times before the children, which now seems unthinkable. Through all the births and additions to our family and through our losses too.
A solid, dependable friend who adored me more than I deserved, always.
It seems so strange that this time last week we were celebrating new life in the house, and now we are feeling the pain of a great loss.
Wishes by Kristen Sharer
in words you'd understand,
We wanted you to stay with us.
This wasn't what we'd planned.
We wish somehow to tell you,
How empty we now feel.
A part of us went with you,
A part that time can't heal.
We wish we'd once more hear you,
in your softly, rumbling purr,
to hold you on our laps again
and stroke your softest fur.
We wish we had you back again,
to fill this empty space.
But one day we'll be together
in a far, far better place.
xx
Sorry to hear such sad news. Thinking of you.

I stopped by today to see if there were anymore adorable puppie pics...how sad I am to hear the news of Trafford...I am so sorry. I, like so many of your friends who have commented here, have lost a beloved pet and there's no pain like it...my sympathies go out to you and your lovely family. What a moving poem too - had me crying...X

Oh Nicky, I'm so sorry to hear about Trafford. I know what it's like when a treasured furry friend dies and it's pretty horrible. He reached a good age though and I'm sure he had a wonderfully happy life with you.

My heart goes out to you at this time. Thank-you for sharing as the hard times in life come with the good, inextricably linked. Memories can't be stolen, hold them close.

Nicky. So sorry to hear this ... So much joy when they are part of our lives. So much pain when they leave us. You have to keep reminding yourself of the great life he had with your family. Such a part of you all.
I reckon this guy had a pretty full life..
Bye for now

How sad Nicky. Our cat is 14 already and we all know that we'll face that awful day before long. They are so special to us and people without pets really don't understand how individual each one is, with their funny little likes and dislikes. I hope that the new life in your house keeps the tears away. x

So sorry you've lost Trafford - it's horrible when a beloved pet dies. Such beautiful photos to remember him by though and Trafford is a fab-u-lous name for a cat.

So sad to hear about Trafford. We lost our our wonderful, cheeky Bracken very suddenly in the summer and it still makes me very sad to think about it, but we will both have lovely memories and photos of our cats, so they will not be forgotten.

Grieving for an animal is as real as any grief for a person's death, and I know I cried buckets when my lovely cat Caesar had to be put to sleep. Hope you're well, and it's lovely that so many people have already left comments for you. Shows how supportive blog communities can be. Best wishes Valerie

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. What a beautiful boy.
We said goodbye to Oblio, our dear friend of 14 years, on Christmas Eve. He was my soul cat and he has left a hole in my life. You said it so well when you said that Trafford adored you more than you deserved-- I feel the same about Oblio. How lucky we are to have such friends, if only for a while.
Again, I am so sorry for your sad loss.

Nicky,I am so sorry and feel your pain.Ilost my beloved Cleo 17yrs old and I still weep when I think of her.Im dreading the passing of Thomas our slightly autistic tabby who has become very affectionate in his dotage.I loved the poem though it made me shed a tear or two.

I've been reading your wonderful blog for a while, though I've never left a comment. But today I really feel I have to say I'm sorry for you all. Losing a friend like this is always very sad and it always seems unfair. Although we know that one day or another this will happen, when it does, we're never, never ready to accept it and let go.
My husband and I lost our beloved Birillo in September and though we are still blessed with two other sweet cats, we can't help missing him a lot, every day.
The only consoling thought is a verse from a very beautiful italian song (I'm writing to you from Florence), which says, more or less: I've always thought that it was better losing you than never meeting you.
A huge hug to you all

I'm so sorry to read this. We had to say goodbye to our dear old Snowy in December, after his ear cancer had returned. It is never easy to lose a friend. Jennie
